California Vegan

I went on a solo mission to California Vegan on Sunset today for lunch.  It's my 2nd time there and well... hate to say it... but strike two, CV.  I really wish I liked their food more - they have a great mission, great service, friendly atmosphere... but man, I have not enjoyed the food.  The first time I went I got a big salad with peanut dressing.  The peanut dressing was more peanut butter than anything else and I ended up switching to ranch once I got half way through (oops).

This time, I tried the fresh spring rolls with soy shrimp and tom yam soup with soy chicken.

The spring rolls had way too much basil and were loosely wrapped.  The dipping sauce was very corn syrup-y and tasted like it came from a can.  I switched to sweet and sour half way through... better but still not great.

The tom yam was great and I can't really complain because the only issue I had was with the flavor of the soy chicken which, I know, isn't for everyone and, at the moment, I am part of the "not for" group.

The price was fair and I like supporting businesses like that but I'm not sure if I'll go again.  They had some promising dishes that didn't involve ficken or frimp that I probably would enjoy.

Willing to try again.
